The Truth

The goals of the present situation in Kenya have a long history, and are understandable for those of us who've been born and bred in Kenya.

  • The AIDS drug (herb) which has been used for the cure of HIV/AIDS has produced a scramble for the succession of power. Kibaki has been trading on the existence of the drug and denying other tribes, mainly the Luos, who have been seriously affected by the scourge. The fact that this is a herb that grows naturally, and yet is a resource able to generate a lot of money, is the bone of contention. The West is also not left out of this control warfare although the people most affected are Africans on the lower income and poverty levels - the "have not"s. This might look like a new war, but it has been brewing undercover and was only waiting for the slightest provocation to erupt, which it now has. It is amazing that the world has waited until the last minute to come in. Such a wait seems to cast doubt on the genuineness of the intentions of these international organizations.
  • The land issue in Kenya has never been addressed, despite the fact that it has been a recurring problem resulting in the killing of innocent people. I have always known that the Maasai mission is a calling and is blessed. We have never claimed to own any land. It is our blessing. Yet lands have been claimed - and taken - during the colonial eras, and are still being taken by governments today. Previous tribal regimes have come out in the open, with the intention of letting the world take a look at the situation in Kenya and help while it was still "smoky".
  • Our fate was written on the wall way back before the 2002 elections. Later the issues were named and became openly visible in an MOU. None of the contending leaders for presidency are right, and a change is what we've always wanted. One tribe cannot compromise on our freedom and continue with the plundering of national resources, denying peace and love to other people and their livelihood. We want a change for peace.
  • We are also seeing the coercing of our national (African) states to sign the ACP/ EU agreement, which is being used as an inducement.

I was alerted to the present situation and its well planned eventuality while on my way to Kenya in June. I was walking outside the country, but still the Mungiki, who have again been dispersed by the government to take care of such people like us, had a good go at me. The Mungiki have now directly taken over the running of the country. Every Kenyan person who is outside the country should be aware and very much alert. The Mungiki faithfuls are in among us, they are coming out to silence those who have refused to dance to their tunes. They've killed people in Mathare, Kibera is burning for their consumption, the Rift Valley is alight, and Mombassa is under siege. They have killed Professor Mbai Ouko and others. The Minister of security Michuki has been supporting and funding this sect.
What is the root of all this? How can reason evade us as a people? Let's join each other for peace in our homes. Greed is ruling at the moment, and people are drunk with power. A superiority complex with the same colonial mantle is exposed and visible in our own leaders. Now is the defining moment - for people to attain freedom and coin their own direction as a people. And while the media have already started fueling the animosity, let us not fall into that trap either. Let us not have the leaders dictate, but have the majority decide, and the people direct.
