Lethargy: A dying continent
by Miyere Ole Miyandazi

One thing that still utterly surprises me is that despite Africans being the most afflicted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, individuals, pharmaceutical companies and organizations that gain through Aids donations are unwilling to solve the problem. This includes government personnel, ministers, M.Ps, academicians, religious leaders and researchers alike, who in any case have lost colleagues to the epidemic.

How on earth can we sit back and allow our own brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers to die right in front of our very own eyes and whenever one comes up with the medicine he/she risks the wrath of the first world.

Is it not time we embrace death if at all it's there, but live consciously without being haunted by guilt?

How would we believe blindly that there is no cure for AIDS while Uganda has managed to cure itself from the ailment, Kenyans are consuming the medication underground for fear of being killed or molested by those who view this as a threat to their source of livelihood.

Even though I know for a fact that my life would be at risk at all times, I still remain optimistic that if we face the problem and risks involved, then we shall be on the road towards tackling the problem.

Africa wake up and face it as warriors. We've been through hard times and we are still going to face tougher times. What our forefathers encountered is no different to what we should be prepared for. We still have home guards (traitors) in the guise of our puppet leaders. The co-operate oppressors will also do anything for capitalistic satiation. And we are certain to have martyrs and warriors who are still seeking self and corporate freedom. They are martyrs for justice and human rights.

The root that I stem from will continue to germinate and grow, in whatever direction it can, it is alive and will always be. The voice of the desperate yet innocent children, women and men will continue to haunt you for as long as you remain silent. A solution is always there and those who need it will always get the way through the toughest of the situation.

If for any reason you would need more verification on this allegation and facts to prove them please feel free to email kensumba@yahoo.com.
